Welcome to my first blog! This will be my stream of consciousness reflections about my inspirations, travels and designs. The header photos are from my last trip to Turkey. I was in a magical town called Sirince, an old Greek village in the south western part of Turkey, high up on a mountain above Ephesus. I have been spending a lot of time in Turkey lately developing my new product line, so stay tuned to how it develops. I will soon be featuring my new line of bedcovers and carpets on my website. My experiences in Turkey have greatly influenced my designs. My family is Turkish and I lived there my second seven years as a child as well as vacationed there throughout my life. I have always been fascinated by the way the Ottomans combined a multitude of patterns and colors, yet created the most beautiful, serene and balanced spaces. For the last eighteen years I have noticed my client’s reaction to color and pattern. If applied correctly it can create the most unique and fulfilling spaces. Ones you can live in for a long time without feeling the need to change. In a way, when I design spaces it is like painting someone’s portrait. You discover their essence, and then try and translate it into three dimension. Of course during this process I take into account my client’s likes and dislikes. I had one client who loved blue and green another yellow, some love stripes others cannot stand the sight of them! It is curious to me what makes people react to color and pattern the way that they do..I would love to research this more and see where it all stems from..
